Personality: Having lived as long as he has, Zack might be pardoned for being a bit reclusive or introverted. Despite all of the changes in the world, he still favors a more observational role rather than attempting to overtly assert himself. Indeed, in most things, Zack comes across as more of a being of thought than action with one notable exception: he is very passionate about his wife and children and does not compromise about that. Even eons later, Zack still takes a simple pleasure in spending time with his Akiko, treasuring her conversation and companionship and is content to set aside a great deal of opulence and other similar distractions as he strives to continue to be a better and more engaging mate for her.

Pre-New Plot History:

The youngest son of the first vampire family in history, Zack grew up as most young men of his station do: immersed in education and culturing activities while his family determined how best to use him to their benefit. And yet, for all the scheming and politicking, it was his grandmother that set the tone for Zack’s future, declaring that he would meet a young woman outside of the family and fall in love with her. Zack was bought up in a royal family. They were the first vampires on the earth to be born. They where the only ones to have been in a royal family by human standards. He was the last born vampire in his family, although on the day he was born his grandmother made a prophecy. Although he heard it all his life he hated it and tried to prove his family wrong.

Try as he might though, Zack found himself succumbing to his grandmother’s words when, as he walked along a beach near his home at night, he saw a young figure in the distance. It was a girl who could not have been more than seven or eight at the time but as soon as he laid eyes on her, he knew she was the one. Of course, being a vampire of nearly five thousand years at the time, Zack was not exactly in a position to reveal everything to his potential love interest, so he played down his romantic intentions at first, a task made easier when he discovered that she had been walking alone in order to cry and work through some of her issues.

For the next few weeks, they saw each other several times more and each time, Zack became more and more convinced that she was the girl he was meant to have, she was the one his grandmother had spoken of. Finally, one night, he decided to act on his feelings and turned her while she slept in his arms. Intoning a spell designed to bind their fates together; he rejoiced at knowing that, as she came to terms with her new ‘life,’ she would be a lover and friend for him. Unfortunately, with that new hope also came new fears, for a young, fledgling vampire would be an easy target for hunters seeking to either harm her directly or strike at Zack through her. With a heavy heart, Zack left his love that night and did all he could to blaze a trail that led away from her for many, many years.

Time passed, and Zack did his best to assure himself that he had done the right thing for the young girl, his future bride. He missed her terribly but was unwilling to expose her to danger before she was capable of protecting herself. At long last, he was able to evade the hunters long enough to steal a week’s work of time with her and Zack was eager, desperate to see her again. He had chased rumors and leads about her for years, never wanting to show his hand too much but always wanting to keep tabs on her when he could. The window of opportunity opened, and Zack flew right in.

They only had a week to fall in love. It seemed like such a short time, but it was all he could give her and, much to Zack’s chagrin, the young vampiress was angry with him, resentful of being deceived and abandoned, no matter how good his intentions might have been. It took quite a lot of conversing, but Zack was finally able to bring his future bride to terms with his love and win her trust for the future. When he was forced to leave again, they parted amicably, tenderly, and with the knowledge that they would have that future together.

Returning to claim his throne after enduring over a thousand years in turpor, Zack stayed out of the public eye for many years, content to celebrate his marriage to his beautiful wife and watch his children grow. Each union, no matter how unexpected, has always been a blessing to Zack, who longs to fill the rest of his un-life with pleasant memories. For the most part, the rest of the world, with the exception of some very diligent hunter organizations is blissfully unaware of him and that is just how Zack likes it…

New Plot History:

Conflict between people has always been and always will be; that humans find reasons to go to war, to spread suffering and misery is hardly new, hardly compelling. Despite the clamor of some to take a more active role in ending the numerous world wars, Zack Requiem has put the concerns of his own kind first and foremost. Much as a man living on the coast prepares for storms to roll in from the sea, so too did Zack dedicate resources and time to protecting and preserving as much of the vampire society that had flourished in the darkness. Mindful of the need to maintain good relations, the King of Vamipres brokered arrangements with the Lycans, Fey and other mystical creatures of the world, ensuring that conflicts between individuals did not blossom into the violence that seemed to seethe in the hearts of humans. While it would be too strong a word to say that the various supernatural beings “liked” eachother, tolerance and deliberation prevailed over conflicts by and large.

The same could not be said for the humans and the few mythical beings that refused to share in the vision of their leaders. Locked in a cycle of violence that few were able to break from, the nations of the world invested more and more sweat, blood and treasure into new and more frightening ways to annihilate eachother. Though sympathetic to the few souls that decried the violence, the mythical creatures of the world could not interfere in the conflicts that had so thoroughly set even once friendly nations against eachother. It had no longer become a question of ‘if’ the world would pay the ultimate price, but when.

And then, as the destruction reached a crescendo, Zack and the other leaders of the mythical world stepped in. Sequestering away the last vestiges of humanity that they could save, Vampires, Lycans, Elves, Fey and other creatures all set about rebuilding the world that they shared, the world they were not ready to give up on. Needless to say, the remnants of humanity viewed their rescuers with shock and awe, but Zack and the other leaders were careful to focus on the task at hand, refusing to let themselves be distracted. Aware that humans could revert to their violent ways if simply turned loose into a world that was not quite ready to be resettled, the mythical creatures agreed to continue sheltering their charges while they reconstructed what they intended to be the first of the great cities to rise from the ashes: London.

It took six centuries to finally reclaim the city on the river Thames from the maelstrom of ruin that the world had become. More than ever before in his many, many years, Zack was in the public eye but, true to form, he was a reluctant supervisor at best, preferring to cuddle up with his wife at the end of the night over trying to establish himself as a point of focus. Under his guidance, vampires played their part and contributed to the beginning of the restoration of humankind and, so long as the blood kept flowing for all, he was happy to let people sort their second chance at the world out for themselves.

Today, Zack has his hands in almost every initiative that aims to continue restoring the world and clearing away the mistakes of the past. Vamipres might recognize his name or even be part of his efforts, but he does not seem interested in claiming fealty. Instead, he prefers to garner respect for his efforts in keeping the largest source of blood available to the vampires on hand, if he is actually going to get anything at all. Now that the metaphorical sun is starting to rise again on this new Earth, the various mythical races have begun to see to their own needs and though it is impossible to see where their various interests and ambitions will take the future, at least those that call themselves vampires can count on Zack as an advocate.
